Gap Issues + Other Syncing Problems

I was hoping this wasn't going to be as much of an issue, but it still seems like there are people who aren't generous when it comes to files being off due to differences in computers.
:?

Next time I'll be sure to have a "sync test" file so everyone can try their best to make sure their computer and file both sync to the standard; but until then GAP adjustments will have to do.

Modifications at request of the authors:
Yamato Nadeshiko (Maxxx400 Infinity Style): GAP -> -1.507 not -1.994

Caravan of Love:
So yeah, it's gone a little wrong.

As well as half a doubles chart mysteriously disappearing, the syncing is completely wrong for some reason - each change happens four times as late as its supposed to.

The sm code should read:
#BPMS:0.000=94.940,16.000=94.680,32.000=94.960,48.000=94.900,64.000=94.750,96.000=95.035,130.000=94.800,137.000=94.400,142.000=94.760,153.000=94.440,158.000=94.450,180.000=94.700,188.000=96.300,192.000=94.000,196.000=94.420,199.000=94.900;

Well GAP adjustments shouldn't need to be used in a "BEST MIX" where simfile authors display their best work and ability, how can you judge someone's sync if there's no standard file?

But the makers of StepMania had finally fixed this issue, here's their official standardized sync file, the .SM file is official and the .DWI has my results (no need to bother with my results, it just shows me how much to adjust my GAP by to make my files fit the standard if I want to so I keep it for information only).

or

why don't people just sync things? everyone's computer has differing offsets based on hardware and operating system

WORD, hahahahah. Even real music games don't get their gaps right sometimes, so please stop being dumb and quit taking points off due to the file not being synched perfectly on your sim.

Sync File (Mirror) in case the ysi link goes down.

This file is on sync to the DDRUK official sims as well. You should set your global offset in your sim (found in the stepmania.ini) so that this file is on beat perfectly. If this file is on beat, then you know your computer has the right offset to sync files correctly to the standard that everyone else is (or should be, if they aren't) using.

The file is off by a few beats, that's not just a computer difference. If all other files are offsync on that computer, this one should just be at least close.

So does this mean that we should send in updated OFFSETS for our simfiles based on this standard? And you are correct, the DDR:UK stuff should be close to this file (although my PC is noticibly off from it  ), so shall I PM you with what my OFFSET would be based on this standard or are we just going to roll with the punches?

OR, we all use the same standard and make adjustments based on differences in hardware and operating systems, then there would be no issues and the files would seem more professional.

And I don't care about people who spent money creating music games with off-sync stuff (Dance Praise, ITG 1&2, and plenty of DDR songs) that doesn't make it right.

Well, hopefully people's pc's are close enough to normal that it shouldn't matter. I don't recall yours being off though - so I don't see why yours would need correcting. The majority of the files here are just fine, with minor offset differences that are easily better than say SuperNova's syncing issues.

If those who do have large gap problems with their computers would just correct them once in the global offset, their world would be easier for them and their files would be synced properly.

I don't know if Dance Praise counts though... they didn't even have a system to differentiate beats.

This will never happen. Gap is and always has been nonstandard. It varies from machine to machine and you will never, ever get every single person into the community to set their machine's gap to some global standard. Learn to love autosync and live with it.

I'm glad I remembered this thread just now or I'd have given Yamato Nadeshiko a serious thrashing for being so horribly offsync. c.c

Excellent, this plays much better now, and I thought there was an issue with an improper GAP as well.
